Button Up, Buttercup: The Button Down Mini Dress

I have to thank Instagram advertising for this button down mini dress. The white version found its way into my closet after sliding past my feed when I was in the mood to buy. It looked effortless, summer friendly, and flattering. Guess what? It is. After receiving the dress, I also stalked the rest of Orsle’s website.  Can we talk about this button down striped romper?

Slip It On

Disclaimer on the white dress: it came a bit more see through than I anticipated. I made sure to wear a silky slip underneath for the daytime. I have fitted slips, but during the summer, I want something that is barely there to cover up bra and undie lines. Better yet,  like to leave my bra and undies in the drawer and trust the slip. I’ll also leave the slip at home when I want to wear it more like a bathing suit cover up. I have a white bikini I love for just this purpose.

I’m tempted to buy the button down mini dress in darker colors. They won’t be transparent and will transfer well to fall with boots and jean jacket.

The Outfit

I wore this little number a few times recently. Here, I’m rocking it before a day of photo shoots for a new client. It was hot and this dress felt barely there. I paired it with two new classic staples: my new favorite wedges and straw hat. You saw them both in this post.

I kept my thrifted chambray shirt nearby to cover up in the air conditioning and to add some definition to my waist. The drop waist isn’t always a kind silhouette for a girl with a booty. Tricks like this keep your frame slim by accentuating the smallest part of your waist.

My favorite detail of the look? The buttons. I’m looking for this little detail on all my new summer dresses. Ruffles, buttons, eyelets and stripes–these are my favorite summer style details.
