2023 Fall & Winter Outfit Essentials

Welcome to fall, ya’ll! I know technically fall started in late September, but I really feel that late October and early November represent the true start to the season. Having my birthday also helps me feel a full transition into the new season and ready for new outfit inspiration. Fall and winter are loaded with fun events, gatherings, and travel opportunities to inspire new outfit combinations. The best part about fall and winter fashion is that you have a great excuse to play with layers and lean into cozy vibes.

This fall and winter, l am leaning on high-performing outfit essentials like versatile jackets, sturdy statement boots, flowing sweaters, maxi dresses, neutral base layers, and gold statement jewelry. We all have fun “base layers” like jeans, blouses, and skirts, so I recommend investing in pieces that maximize what you already have.

Fall & Winter Shopping Tip: Before you go to the mall to shop or settle in for some online shopping, take inventory of your closet first. What pieces could you take into the cooler months with the right jacket, knee-high boots, or long-sleeve shirt? Better yet, can you make room by selling or donating clothes to make room or your winter wardrobe? Get my closet clean out guide.

A Few Fall & Winter 2023 Trends to Note

Lots of Red: I’m so pumped about it. While my signature color is pink, my FAVORITE color is red. It says “sexy” without having to be tight or revealing. Try a cozy oversized red sweater for your fall and winter outfits. I love this sustainable option from Everlane.

Maxi Skirts with Volume: This is part of the growing “quiet luxury” aesthetic sweeping the socials. A pleated maxi skirt pairs well with a graphic tee just as well as it does with a sequin top. You can also wear warm leggings underneath a maxi skirt to stay cozy in cooler fall and winter temperatures. This wool maxi skirt on Amazon is calling my name.

Relaxed 90s Look: Go simple and win big with this polished but comfortable fall and winter outfit trend also referred to as “norm core” or “90s minimalism.” We’ll see a lot of coordinated oversized sets, straight- and wide-leg denim, oversized blazers, and colorful oversized sweaters.  Make sure you still pop and feel polished with chunky or bold accessories like a cool belt buckle, patterned pointed-toe boots, and fun jewelry. I recommend hitting up Goodwill for oversized blazers–don’t be afraid to look in the mens side!

Metallics: Fashion editors called this one early. I’m already seeing metallic pants, boots, blazers, heels, and even blouses more and more on celebrities and bloggers. I’m thinking a pair of metallic pants would be just as fun to dress down with sneakers as they would dressed up with a sexy crop top. Throw on a big furry coat and you’d got a whole vibe.  These high-rise metallic jeans from the Gap look just right.

I’ll be trying the trends above, but you’ll see some very “Sweet Sauce” trends in my fall and winter wardrobe. That includes a lot of oversized sweaters, cardigans, and jackets over mini skirts and mini dresses with boots. I love carrying my summer looks into fall with these layering options. I’m also loving silky maxi skirts and dresses as a juxtaposition to knit sweaters and leather jackets. In general, it’s the blend of casual and sexy I always lean on with an emphasis on comfort and versatility.
