My Favorite Christmas Memory
My favorite holiday memory is one that takes place at Christmas when I was 12 years old. We had a full house at my mom and step dad’s. It was the last Christmas I spent it with all three of my siblings on that side of my family, including a cousin who was staying with us. My mom would go above and beyond on Christmas morning. She would make an elaborate display of gifts on the big day, saving many presents until the morning of. I never knew how she did it all…
It was the same that morning. This time, we were in our new-ish house on Lake Anna. Our tree was so big, we would joke about it. With five kids under one roof, the living room was full. We ate and laughed all day. My brother and sister passed away the following spring. My oldest brother passed away years later. While it can be hard, I like to go all in for the holidays because I feel closer to them all when I do. I want to think that they can come down and join me at any second. I want to have something fun for them to enjoy when they do.
