Sweaters Can Be Sexy: How I Wore My Long Cardigan

My Cozy Grey Long Cardigan

You’ve seen all the Pinterest posts and liked all the Instagram shots of your favorite bloggers wearing this season’s coziest must-have: the long cardigan. The oversized sweaters look so chic and somehow make the models look even slimmer when they wear them.

I got this cardigan in the mail and was like, what gives? I felt frumpy and even got a side eye from my man. (“Are you going out or going to bed?”) I actually went out one day to shoot the sweater and didn’t like any of the photos. I was not feeling flattered.

Then I realized how to make it work. Here are my rules to making an oversized cardigan work for you.

1. Keep it tight underneath: Wear leggings, jeggings, skinny jeans and form-fitting shirts. No loose fabrics to add to the bulk of the cardigan.
2. Show off some skin: Whenever I work with a personal shopping client, I always tell them to show some ankle, wrist, and collar bone. These are my favorite parts of the female body. You don’t have to show all three, but no matter how conservative your outfit, if you can show a little you’ll add a smidge of feminine appeal to your look. Bonus: let the sweater slip off your shoulder as much as you can.
3. Add some makeup: Remind the world you aren’t wearing pajamas. Throw on your favorite red lip stick or heavy eye make up to make sure everyone knows you are to be taken seriously.
4.  Accessorize: Polish off the look with one or two of your favorite jewelry items. Maybe it’s a sexy ring or a standard choker like I did here.
