The snake symbolizes creativity, recreation, rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. Serpents crave change, wanting to shed their snakeskin to reveal a more beautiful exterior each time. We, too, can change and evolve to become better versions of ourselves. As you look upon this group of women wearing their favorite snakeskin pieces, you’ll know the snake is also undoubtedly charming, flirtatious, strong and resilient.

Speaking of rebirth, the snakeskin trend has made a big play in 2019. Snakeskin skirts, boots, pants, shirts, bags and belts have always been players in fashion on the streets and the runways. Some seasons the print has been more prevalent than others like the 70s. It’s back in a big way this year, too.

I invited the Sweet Sauce team to take on the snakeskin trend. You’ll see a familiar face here, Becca. There are three new faces, though! Meet interns Moozhan, Erin, and Skye. Learn more about all of the team here. Each one chose their favorite snakeskin piece and transformed it for a summer happy hour at Kabana.

Why We Love the Trend

For starters, it’s a blend of neutral colors. Snakeskin will pair with just about anything. The warmer tones will pick up summer color on your cheeks. Bright undertones will bring out flecks of white from your distressed denim. We all somehow found a variation of snakeskin patterns that blended blacks, browns, reds and whites in a different way.

If you don’t wear snakeskin as an article of clothing, then the print makes a great accessory. I was floored by Moozhan’s boots. It got me thinking about belts and bags in the animal print. You can wear a simple outfit, but make it pop with the pattern on a purse or on your feet.

If I didn’t spit enough poetry earlier, then I should also add that the print is undeniably feminine. I feel confident I could pair the print with any pair of boyfriend pants or a boxy blazer and it would add the right edge to keep the look a little sexy. Even a cute skort like Skye’s was transformed by the print. The piece may have been little cutesy in another pattern, but this was a level up.
