Ran Life: I Wear These White Pants All the Time

Like always, I like to keep it real over here on Sweet Sauce. I don’t always wear brand new clothes.  I don’t always come home to blog freebies on my doorstep. I don’t have time to shop often. I don’t have the money to keep new things coming in. I also very, very much love the clothes I already own. I am much better than I used to be at investing in items I’ll want to wear again and again. Case and point: these white pants. They’re the kind of discovery I purchase and wear until I can’t any more.

Taking care of the most-loved pieces in my closet is an ongoing lesson. I like to share what I’ve learned with you as much as I can. Why invest if you don’t get the most out of your clothes? I’ve written about clothing care several times here on Sweet Sauce. This article about dry cleaning is really helpful when deciding what to take to the dry cleaner and what to take care of yourself at home. This article shares a step-by-step guide about how keep your white pants white. Today, I want to share a few tools I keep close to fix any boo boo in partnership again with Biz.

Tools to Take Care of Your Clothes

  1. Water. I can’t tell you how many stains I’ve gotten out with plain old  cold water. It’s especially useful for wine, blood and non-oil stains.
  2. Biz Stain Fighter. I keep this by my washing machine and in my kitchen. I soak up any oil-based stains with this power house. Dab some onto your stain before you wash it. Let it sit. Give it a little rub with water before you put it into the washing machine. Bonus: you can use this as detergent.
  3. Nice clothes hangers. I hang up most of my clothes. I invested in felt hangers a couple years ago and haven’t looked back. It keeps clothes from stretching, falling, and pulling. Everything lasts longer this way.
  4. Fabric glue. Sometimes a hem comes loose or is getting ready to. I preemptive strike with a light fabric glue. Make sure you don’t let the glue mess up other areas the garment. I always place a magazine in between sleeves and legs so that don’t stick together.
  5. Needle and thread. You don’t have to be any kind of seamstress to tie up a small tear or loose button. No one is looking that close. If anything, it says “I love my clothes,” when you can see an exposed repair. Don’t underestimate yourself.
  6. No thy seamstress. Don’t have a good seamstress? Get one. Get to know them. Make friends with them. They’ll take care of your and your clothing babies.
