Make Your Own Terrarium at Plant Nite

plant nite

One Monay night, I took a drive out to a more beautiful and open area of Richmond. As the sun set, I pulled into an expansive nursery and flower garden called Boulevard Flower Garden to spend a couple of hours with Richmond’s finest ladies and gentlemen. For what? Terrariums, wine and food. That’s what.

Plant Nite is much like the well-known paint-night concept, but instead of taking home a paint-by-numbers painting, I took home a living terrarium I could design myself.

The tables were set with a variety of containers including glass bowls and chalkboard boxes. We were each able to chose our own. A colorful sea of pebbles, moss, and tiny dinosaurs were laid out next to rows and rows of a variety of succulents. I grabbed a glass of wine and the other guests grabbed food from The Boulevard Flower Garden cafe. I couldn’t wait to settle in and get dirty!

We were walked through step-by-step how to set up a terrarium that would stand the test of time. Other than that, we were able to spread our creative wings. Each guest placed their succulents differently, sprinkled pebbles in a variety of shapes, and used the tiny dinosaurs in downright hilarious ways.

After spending 1.5 hours creating a one-of-a-kind planter, we all had fabulous succulent gardens. I can only imagine what everyone did with theirs. Mine is sitting in my kitchen window. We were told to spray it once a week with water and let it be. So easy!

This creative group event is coming to the Richmond area this fall and the group is already booking private Plant Nites. Visit plantnite.com to get started!

Take a look at our funky evening. These gorgeous photos are by Jenny Wolf. The etherial lighting was provided by mother nature. I’m wearing a soft and flattering Lula Roe top– have you entered the $50 giveaway??
