Summer Beauty Hacks to Take on Now

Summer Beauty Hacks to Try Out Now

I’m on my way home to Richmond, Virginia from a long weekend in Boston. My travels have also taken me to New Orleans, DC, the Outer Banks and more so far this season. One thing that’s the same everywhere right now: it’s hot and the sun is ever present. That makes a few things tricky, including looking good. I’ve made some new additions to my beauty routine thanks to help from my friends, followers, and beauty experts in my circle. I put together a list of my favorite simple ways to upgrade your summer beauty routine.

Before you scroll, visit me on Instagram for a giveaway! I’m sharing a new set of lash extensions ($175 value), a custom mobile spray tan ($70 value), and $100 gift card to Beauty Counter with one lucky follower.

Lash Extensions and Brow Tint

If you haven’t heard me yammering on about my lash extensions from Curly Willow Spa, then you are new around here. I first wrote about my experience here. I am smitten with my lash extensions because that means I don’t have to put on mascara, worry about it running, or taking it off at the end of the day. Instead, I just use a simple powder eyeliner to give them oomph when I head out for dinner, drinks, or a photoshoot. I also started having my brows waxed and tinted. I have always added color to my light, thin eyebrows. With all the sweating I’ve been doing, they wouldn’t stand a chance. Now I don’t have to worry about that either!

A Spray Tan

While the sun is out, ideally you’re acquiring some color. We all know it’s not super healthy and that you won’t always be ready for the bikini or the short dress. Having a guaranteed glow for special events, trips, and other big moments in the summer where clothing is minimal is a game changer. I’ve been working with Erin of Pradas Glow to get me the right glow. She comes right to my apartment, so I save time and she pays attention to every little detail. There are a few ways you can take care of your spray tan and make it last:

  • Exfoliate and moisturize really well a few hours before your spray tan.
  • Don’t schedule any workouts or anything too sweaty the first day or two after your spray tan.
  • 24 hours after application, make sure you get a good rinse in the shower to help it set in and wash off the top layer.
  • Then, find a good body oil (no coconut!) to apply throughout the week or so you have your tan. That will keep your skin healthy and avoid it from flaking off in patches.

CC Cream or Tinted Moisturizer

Forget the foundation during the summer. Your pores are already getting clogged from sweat and whatever else from extra outdoor time. Thicker foundations also melt off in a pretty ugly way when the sun starts beating down. Tinted moisturizer or CC cream is a much lighter option that often delivers extra skincare benefits when you put it on. I always reach for some with SPF. I recently have been wearing the Beauty Counter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer and it lasted all day.

An Easy Highlighter

Sometimes beauty in the summer is a burden not because of your skin, but because it takes too much time. We all have plans that we want to get out in. I love simple solutions to shorten my skincare routine. I reach for my Mac’s Smack Highlighter, which they call the Enlighten Skin Balm. I swipe it on my eyelids, cheeks bones, and dab a little above my lips and tip of my nose.  I’ve tried one of these below and some are on my wish list:

A Matte Lipstick

I love a good glossy lip. During the summer, though, my skin is already glowing more than usual. I don’t mind it, but I don’t want everything looking shiny. If I can’t help my face glowing a little more than usual, then I adjust my lip color. I’ve found a few quality matte lip colors in several price ranges thanks to friends and my beauty gurus. The color of a matte lip is rich, which is a lovely contrast when my makeup is light. Most of them often stay longer than a glossier lip color, too. I linked to several below.

Simple Hair, Don’t Care

Several of you commented on my Instagram post looking for summer beauty hacks and shared that hair was a big issue. Firstly, you don’t want to wash it too much. The heat leaves it dry and a little more unmanageable. So, the solution is to help your styling last long with dry shampoo. Also, you can lean into the summer vibes by grabbing a salt spray or oil to achieve tousled locks. They’ll pass during both formal and casual events during the summer months.

Hats on Hats

Along the same lines as hair, I give you hats. After music festivals, winery days, and work in the field, I’ve got so much love for my hats this year. Having a good collection of hats is a summer beauty hack I’m into. They keep me cool, keep my skin protected, and cover up a funky hair day in a minute. I wrote an entire post about different summer hats I think every woman should have this year. Read it here. I plucked a few from the edit and linked to them below.
