Money Investment for Beginners: Why You Should Start Investing in Your 30s

Before I start talking about money investment for beginners, we should take a quick walk through my professional journey that brings me to a place where I can even invest in the first place. There are a lot of places where I can start my entrepreneurship story. It really begins when I was in elementary school. I knew then when I got obsessed with books and reading that I thought I might like to make words a career someday. It wasn’t until later in life that I recognized the other entrepreneurial motivators that circled around me at that age. That included my mother and stepfather working as entrepreneurs themselves.

Back then, being an “entrepreneur” wasn’t a sexy word like it is today. Even now that it’s “on-trend” to work for myself, there are a lot of things people don’t share and information you have to find out on your own. One of those things was money management. When I left my last full-time job 8 years ago, there was no one sharing info about budgeting, saving, invoicing, or investing. There was hardly a blog or a mentor who could show me the way to making the right decisions with the income I was making (or not making). I made some mistakes, but I did learn a valuable lesson that has helped me earn and save more money than ever: ask for help. Don’t ask for help from just anyone: ask for help from the experts. That’s how I successfully started investing in a Roth IRA, asked a major client of mine to match contributions into a 4013b, and how I set up a weekly savings contribution to an account that earns. I had experts show me the way. Now, experts are showing me the way to investing money as a beginner.

Until now, I hadn’t yet started investing my money in the stock market. Now that I’m in my 30s, though, it’s time. I am ready thanks to help from the experts at Avidus, a Richmond-based investment app. I chatted with the pros here about why investing money in your 30s is the best time to start.

For starters, you’re making more money than ever.

That means you have extra income to invest. For me personally, my entrepreneurship journey led me through some extreme ups and downs. But I’ve finally balanced out and built a steady, dependable stream of income for myself. I also have built a buffer into my budget for when the months aren’t so profitable. On the full-time job spectrum, I know my friends have all earned several raises and pay jumps they deserve. With more financial stability and a higher income, investing money for beginners is a little more comfortable.

You are already building savings habits.

By now, you know the deal when it comes to setting aside money for your retirement accounts like a Roth IRA or a 401(k). Setting aside money to invest in the stock market as a beginner won’t seem so difficult. Avidus advisors suggest setting up recurring deposits into your investment accounts, which mimics what you’re already doing for other savings avenues. Get into the habit of paying your future self this way.

You have time to ride out the ups and downs of the market.

The market goes up and down, so long-term investing is how you can earn the most. You can only invest for the long-term if you start now. When you start investing in your 30s, you still have time to make up for market losses over the long term. When you stick to investing long-term, many experts say stocks can return 10 percent for investors. The market will inevitably turn down, but if you ride out these storms, it will allow your money to grow slowly. Because of the longer timeline, that money also has time to compound before you reach retirement age.

Money Investment for Beginners

You don’t have to have tons of money to invest, which used to be the case.

You can invest today with as little as $100 thanks to companies like Avidus. A saying of the Avidus team is “don’t play with your money.” For someone who has had to figure out a lot of stuff on my own as an entrepreneur, I couldn’t love that more. Being able to invest as a beginner with $100 vs thousands makes me much more comfortable. I don’t want to risk it all, but $100 is manageable as I get started.

The Experts at Avidus Do the Hard Work for You.

In today’s current market, having someone you trust do the decision-making for you is more important than ever. Their investment team hand selects stocks to build portfolios that no one else has access to. You don’t have to do the research, stay on top of major business events that impact the market, and more. With other trendy investment apps, investors like me have virtually no guidance, at least not from an actual financial advisor. I may find guidance from the newspaper or a friend. That ends up looking more like gambling than investing to me. Hard pass on the gambling with my money for me!

You have help from the pros in other ways with Avidus. There’s a chat function in the Avidus app, which allows you to talk to a financial manager or relationship manager–they are real people! I met them. I love this tangible component, which also makes me feel even more confident in investing my money as a beginner.

All you need is $100 to start. There’s no hidden fees, either. This is investment made available for anyone. Come take care of the money you’ve earned and watch it grow with me!
