Skye’s Seven: Tips for Nailing the Biker Short

Skye’s Seven: Tips for Nailing the Biker Short

I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but see the biker short trend popping up everywhere. I think the first time I saw them styled was in one of the Kardashian’s infamous booty selfies all over Instagram but now they have become so mainstream you can even see them at Target. Personally, I still have the scarring image of my dad buying me my first “professional” cyclist outfit, consisting of a jersey and of course padded biker shorts. So, over here at the Sweet Sauce team we still are a little unsure if we can hop on this trend but, we decided it might be time to give it a try. They’re comfy. It’s hot outside. There are endless affordable options to shop the trend.

Our Rules for the Biker Short Trend

How to Buy Them

Our biggest tip: Try to them on! In order to fully immerse myself into this article, I went out and tried on a few different brands of biker shorts. My first stop was Target and to my surprise they were actually pretty picked over however, they did have one pair of hot pink in my size. I went to the dressing room to try them out and I have to be honest I giggled a little when I saw myself. These most definitely did not accentuate my 5’3 body and it probably had to do with the fact that they reached all the way to my knee caps. But luckily when I got to Urban Outfitters they had a pair that hit mid-thigh and looked much more normal. Therefore, unless you are 5’7 or up I would recommend looking for a shorter length.

What to Wear on Top

The Blazer: The popular blazer look can’t be denied. It’s a simple way to dress up biker shorts for a night out or just to run to a coffee shop down the block. Make sure it is a longline blazer and covers your bum to keep it more formal.

The Denim Jacket: For the same effect as a blazer, but with a causal vibe, reach for your denim jacket. This will offer you more flexibility for daytime to night time dressing and we all know we can’t live without one.

The Crop: If you’re choosing a blazer or denim jacket for the look, reach for something to show off you’re mid drift. This will elongate your frame and keep things cool and casual for the summer months.

The Oversize: Anything oversized or baggy like a thrifted graphic tee or hoodie is the perfect pair for your biker shorts too. It keeps you comfy but also contrasts the tightness of the shorts to add some dimension to your look.

How to Accessorize

Reach for a cross body bag to keep the look fresh and casual. You can also grab a fanny pack or belt bag too. For shoes, forget the heels, please. Instead, reach for platform sneakers. That will keep your look fresh and summer friendly.

Xoxo,

Skye
