Thrifted Thursday: Yellow Dress Beach Bum

A Yellow Dress Always Makes Me Smile

I’m a big fan of investing in clothes that make you stop and smile every time you see them. When I was thrifting at Goodwill recently to prepare for this article, I walked by this yellow dress a few times before I actually threw it over my shoulder to try on.

I was headed to the Outer Banks and wanted to bring along some additional fun dresses to wear. I over purged recently and wound up with very few casual dresses. I hunted for dresses that would be totally comfortable over a swimsuit, playful, yet sexy. I found them at Goodwill! This yellow dress with ruffled details was the first of two I fell in love with for my trip. It made me smile, which is a style commandment I decide to give into. The yellow dress and its bow detail made me light up as soon as I tried it on. When I threw on a Panama hat I found with it in the dressing room, I was totally pumped for my vacation. I played around with the neckline of the dress taking it from a v-neck to an off-the-shoulder shape. My tan shoulders loved the attention and the golden hue complimented the beachside sunset.

I knew I also needed a hat for the trip and I found this classic Panama hat in the kids section! Yes. I’m wearing a child’s large here. Guess what? It fits me perfectly. I didn’t take it off for a whole week. For a $1.50, I’d say I’ve already gotten my money’s worth. It’s not something I’d usually expect to find at a thrift store, but I’m glad some 10-year old boy didn’t want this any more. I don’t plan on keeping it too far away all summer long.
