On my quest to help you discover new and affordable fashions while supporting great businesses, I am bringing you another set of tips featuring my favorite, favorite, consignment shop. Read the first articles in this series about selling and buying clothes at consignment shops here, here, and here.
Sweet Clementine has been my long-time favorite consignment store in Richmond. They sell higher-end brands and everything feels practically new. At Clementine, you’ll find brands like Tory Burch, J. Brand, Banana Republic, Jimmy Choo, J. Crew, and more. The store only sells women’s clothing. It is a perfect place for young professionals to mature women to shop for their work and casual wardrobes. It boasts a pretty large jewelry selection that is always fresh and on-trend (and really affordable).
Clementine will sell your clothes for up to 60 days and do their own pricing. They agree to give you 50% of the selling price. You’ll want to bring in clothes that match up with the coming season. Don’t bring in your wool skirts in April. Don’t bring in your awesome summer frock in October.
What I Sold
I recently brought in a haul of about eight items from Banana Republic and J. Crew, some were sold on behalf of a friend. They accepted five and sold all five. If they don’t sell it, they donate it. Otherwise, you must pay a $15 pickup fee. The items were probably about $40 new retail value each. I earned almost $20 after the 60-day period. You could earn a lot more if you brought in a larger number of items or higher-end items from brands such as DVF, Free People, Lilly Pulitzer, or Mara Hoffman.
Here are some items and patterns I’ve spotted over the past few months that have inspired me.
What I’ve Bought
You’ve seen me rocking some of these items on Sweet Sauce. There are just a few that I’ve scooped up at Clementine since I’ve been living in Richmond (over a decade now!).
Follow them on Facebook. They post new items there every week. You can both learn more about what they buy, but also be the first to know about amazing deals that come through. I got my fur vest that way. Check it out.
