Shop and Sell with ThredUp

buy and sell with thredup

Welcome to the second part of my series about how to sell your clothes! Read the first edition here.

ThredUp is an online consignment store. It’s great for people like me who love to reduce, reuse, and recycle (and save money, but that doesn’t start with an “r”). Sometimes you just can’t take the time to visit and dig through all the thrift and consignment stores when you have the itch. ThredUp shopping is just like any other online retail store. The site is clean, simple, and easy to use.

 Selling

What’s great about selling with ThredUp is they do basically ALL the work for you. You place an order for a Clean Out Bag and it appears in your mailbox a few days later. Then, you go through your name-brand clothes and fill it up. Moms and dads, you can buy and sell kids clothes, too.

Then, you wait for an email.

ThredUp won’t give you as much as you might get consigning at a local storefront, but let’s face it, this is easy as hell. ThredUp does a lot of work and they keep their prices really low so when we buy, it’s awesome.

I have sold a few times and gotten a pretty good return rate, up to $20 one time. This one was kind of low, but hey, it’s $8.68 I didn’t have before!

My most successful item was a silk BCBG cocktail dress. Think about what YOU would buy for $30 or more on a site like this if you want more than the $8 I got on this last round.

Buying

With ThredUp, you can harness the power of the online search and sorting tools that you cannot in a thrift or consignment store. You can purchase from brands that you already love and know your size. You can also take risks on new brands because the clothes are dirt cheap. I personally haven’t had any misses. Below are some scores from ThredUp. I probably have about 20 items I have bought from ThredUp, though. Many are great staples in my closet.

Tips

When selling, THEY ARE PICKY. But, that’s good for people like me who buy, too! Everything I have received has been like new.

Sometimes, sizes don’t always work out. People hem their pants and take out their dresses and the buyers at ThredUp might not notice that. I had a friend who got two dresses that didn’t fit, but she returned them easily and loved the shoes she got.
